Radan Kanev has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 and sits in the
European People’s Party (EPP) group. On national level, he comes from Democrats for a
Strong Bulgaria (DSB), a party he was amongst the founders of in 2004, and which he led
from 2013 to 2017, being a Bulgarian MP from 2014 to 2017. He is an active member of the
Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) as well as the Committee
on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) where actively contributes to the green transition
and industrial transformation legislation. He was the EP rapporteur on the Industrial
Emissions Directive and currently works on the financing of the industrial transformation
and defence in Europe with the aim of bringing efficiency into the EU funding rules so that
funding benefits a competitive EU industry. Recently, MEP Kanev has been appointed EPP
shadow on the Environmental Omnibus, with a special focus on speeding up of
environmental assessments. By education, Mr Kanev is a lawyer, having practised the
profession for over 20 years.
